Orcas Island

Two of my favorite people in the world moved away from Texas a year ago. Their new location: Orcas Island. David and Sherry May are some of the kindest, most giving people we know. Mrs. May taught me Kindergarten for 6 weeks (before we moved) and David for two years. Mr. May was one of my teachers when I was in 5th grade. Seattle is only 3 hours (two by car plus 1 by ferry) from Orcas so when my family and I found out we were coming to Seattle this year we decided to take some time to go see the Mays. Since Mom and Dad have had practice we couldn’t find a time Dad could go with us but while he was in meetings Tuesday we took of for the ferry. We spent the night Tuesday night and headed back the Wednesday afternoon. It’s a gorgeous island and we had so much fun! Here’s the story in pictures…

We finally arrived at the ferry station. After parking the car and paying for our spot we realized that someone (we won’t mention names) had left their purse at the restaurant we ate lunch at. So, Dave “parked” the luggage in our parking spot and waited with it while I purchased tickets and Mom drove back to get the neglected purse. Mom made it back in plenty of time and we settled in for a 10 minutes wait…

Arriving at Orcas Island!!

The Mays were waiting for us when we docked. They snapped these photos for us.

After hugs we loaded the truck and they took us on a tour of the island. It is so beautiful! This little Island is called Indian Island.

Next, they took us up Mt. Constitution. Check out the fabulous view:

Here’s Mr. and Mrs. May’s backyard. The stairs lead up to a little place called “Picnic Hill” where we cooked dinner.

All the Fixins… Yum

And of course more food! Here’s breakfast the next morning…

And I promised pictures of the house:

The Sweetest People…

These flowers are all over the island! They’re called Fox Gloves.

We found an abundance of poppies at a B&B and stopped for some pictures

David and Sherry teach at Orcas Christian School. Wednesday morning they gave us a tour of the school. The campus is amazing. It is state of the art and beautiful. Here’s a picture of the Orcas Christian School Chapel.

All too quickly, it was time to leave. Farwell Orcas!

We love you, Mr. and Mrs. May! Thanks for spending time with us!!!

Julia

Every year our family is privileged to vacation with other executives from the company my Dad works for. For the past three years my parents have sung in a small choir with a few of Dad’s colleagues. As a result we head to the city where the meetings are being held several days before everyone else arrives. One of the other choir “members” also has kids close to Dave’s age that come early. Julia is the little cutie of the bunch. She has so much personality and get us all laughing frequently. The other day Julia asked me to fix her hair like I did last year. Once we had it all up and sprayed we did a little impromptu photo shoot. She is so much fun! Here are a few snapshots of her:

Greetings from Seattle

I’m finally back! Sorry for my lengthy absence from the blogger world. Mi familia and I are in Seattle right now. So far we’ve relaxed, the parents have sung a lot (they’re in a small choir), and we’ve done a little site seeing. Today the camera made an appearance. After my parents music practice we met my cousin, Carson, for lunch. Carson is my mom’s sister’s son and he lives here. It was so great to see him again. He took us to a neat lookout to see a unique view of the city. Here are  a few photos from our day:

Happy Father’s Day

Well, I don’t really know what to say. Words are not adequate to express how great my Dad is. His example and prayers have shaped our family into what it is today. My Dad’s no ordinary man.

Growing up, my Daddy would take me on dates every so often. I’ve gotten busier as I’ve gotten older but we still find time to go on the occasional father/daughter date. He never fails to remind me that he loves me and to tell me how beautiful I am to him. Even more important, his actions speak louder than his words. He’ll drop whatever he is doing to spend time with us. When those lonely days set in and Dave or I complain of being bored he tells to pick what we want to do and he’ll do it with us. He helps around the house all the time, works outside, is an amazing administrator, helps Dave with his new business, and cheers me on in my latest endeavors (and there have been many).

This whole post seems like a pitiful grasp at explaining my father. So to say it simply…

Dad, I love you so much. Thanks for all you do and who you are. Your encouragement and support keep me going and your spiritual example has kept me running back to Jesus. Thanks for the wonderful husband you are to Mom and the great Dad you are to David and I. I’m going to miss you this school year. Let me assure you, I’ll be anxious to get back to my Daddy. Breaks won’t come soon enough. Dad, I love you. Happy Father’s Day.

Your favorite daughter,

Olivia Leigh
