Sam

Creativity was threatening to make my brain explode. I had to find an outlet… fast. Sam and I have become good friends over the last month and when I asked if she’d be interested in shooting some pictures with me she was almost as excited as I was. So, yesterday afternoon Sam and I headed for Coolidge Park in downtown Chattanooga to let our creative juices flow. Talk about fun! Here are the results:

Our shoot was nearing an end when we stumbled upon this wonderful fountain. I’ve ALWAYS wanted to shoot pictures of someone playing in a fountain so when Sam was willing… let’s just say I was stoked. On a hilarious side note: as I stood in front of a lion statue snapping this photo, a little boy climbed onto the lion’s back and casually, without my knowing it, pushed a button sending a blast of cold water directly onto my back. I jumped in surprise and the burst into laughter. Fun fun!!

Flowers from Dad

“Where are you, Olivia?” Emily’s voice sang through the phone to my ear. “Studying in Kelly’s Garden, why?” “Oh, there’s some mail for you in our mailbox. Just thought you’d like to know.” My curiosity peaked ever so slightly, but I didn’t think too much about her announcement. We Thatcher girls leave little notes for each other frequently. While these are special and make my day a little brighter, I didn’t feel the need to race back to the dorm. After all, I had much studying to get done.

As I walked through the glass doors of Thatcher Hall, Emily’s phone call resurfaced in my memory and I headed for the mailbox. There, as I suspected, sat a sweet note from my dear friend, Karie. But wait, what was that white slip hiding beneath it? A package slip? Retrieving the slip from my tiny box I quickly scanned the information. Flowers?

“We tried to call you several times,” the desk worker informed me as she walked back to the counter to retrieve my precious blossoms. I was astonished by the beauty of the bouquet, one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen!

Grabbing the card out of its holder, I quickly tore it open.

The message I found was sweet and simple:

Daddy, I love you so much. The flowers are beautiful. I cannot even begin to thank you. It was so exciting to walk in from studying and find a huge bouquet of luscious flowers awaiting me. I miss you. Thanks, Dad.

First Day of Fall

Homework is piling up but I could not let this first day of fall pass without posting some photographs of the glorious scenery that surrounds Southern. Mary Jo and I went running/walking this evening and since my camera hadn’t been out since I stepped on campus (yes, I know it’s sad) I couldn’t resist the urge to capture the first day of fall. So, I made the not-so-wise decision to go jogging with my incredibly heavy camera hanging around my neck. Needless to say, it was quite the experience. However, the pictures that resulted are worth the effort.

These pictures were all taken on the Greenway, a running/walking trail that winds through a wood beginning on campus and traveling into Collegedale. The foliage is breath-taking. Pictures can describe it better than words…

I caught MJ… she was doing her best to hide from my camera, but I caught her…

The beauty begins…
